A SENATE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND CONGRATULATE PRESIDING BISHOP EDWARD SMITH ON THE OCCASION OF HIS TWENTIETH ANNIVERSARY AS PRESIDING BISHOP OF THE PROGRESSIVE CHURCH OF OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST AND PASTOR OF ITS COLUMBIA CHURCH.

Whereas, it is with great pleasure and gratitude that the Senate recognizes individuals who are dedicated to succoring the souls of men; and

Whereas, Bishop Edward Smith, a dedicated man of God, has spent a lifetime helping the saints "build up [themselves] on [their] most holy faith," the past twenty years being spent as Presiding Bishop of The Progressive Church of Our Lord Jesus Christ and pastor of his denomination's headquarters church in Columbia; and

Whereas, having committed untold hours of Christ-honoring service to his thriving flocks in Columbia and Denmark and beyond, Bishop Smith has shown himself worthy of praise as both bishop and pastor; and

Whereas, during the twenty years of his faithful tenure, both the headquarters church and the national church have prospered and seen tremendous growth in membership, and numerous new churches have been established; and

Whereas, Bishop Smith considers one of his crowning achievements as having had the good sense to marry the former Edna M. Friday, his beloved wife of almost fifty-five years, and to raise with her three fine children, William, David, and Joyce, who have blessed their parents with three grandchildren, David, Brandon, and Adrienne. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, recognize and congratulate Presiding Bishop Edward Smith on the occasion of his twentieth anniversary as Presiding Bishop of the Progressive Church of Our Lord Jesus Christ and pastor of its Columbia church.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Bishop Edward Smith.
