A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR MR. JOHN N. HARDEE, OF RICHLAND COUNTY, FOR HIS DEDICATED SERVICE TO THE CITIZENS OF SOUTH CAROLINA AS A MEMBER OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION COMMISSION.

Whereas, John N. Hardee represented the Second Congressional District as South Carolina Department of Transportation Commissioner from February 1998 until January 2007, his district covering nearly five thousand square miles and including Beaufort, Jasper, Hampton, Allendale, Barnwell, and Lexington counties, as well as portions of Richland, Calhoun, Orangeburg, and Aiken counties; and

Whereas, he is Director of Governmental Affairs for Lamar Advertising and served as President of the Outdoor Advertising Association of South Carolina from 1989 to 2003; and

Whereas, Mr. Hardee served as Chairman of the Scenic Highways Committee from 1995 until 1998 and was instrumental in the planning and construction of numerous road and bridge projects, including the John N. Hardee Airport Expressway; and

Whereas, in acknowledgment of his outstanding service, in January of 2000 he was named one of the five men of the decade by Columbia Metropolitan magazine; and

Whereas, a committed family man, he is a devoted husband to his lovely wife, the former Sheila Leatherman, and with her has raised a fine son, John Hardee II; and

Whereas, the General Assembly takes great pleasure in commending individuals who have served the State of South Carolina well and honorably, and John N. Hardee, an exemplary public servant among their number, richly deserves such commendation. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring:

That the members of the South Carolina General Assembly, by this resolution, recognize and honor Mr. John N. Hardee, of Richland County, for his dedicated service to the citizens of South Carolina as a member of the South Carolina Department of Transportation Commission.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Mr. John N. Hardee.
