AN ACT TO AMEND THE CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, BY ADDING SECTION 50-13-12 SO AS TO PROVIDE THAT IT IS UNLAWFUL TO SNAG FISH WITH ONE OR MORE HOOKS FOR THE PURPOSE OF IMPALING FISH.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

Unlawful to snag fish

SECTION    1.    Article 1, Chapter 13, Title 50 of the 1976 Code is amended by adding:

"Section 50-13-12.    It is unlawful to take fish by snagging, pulling, or jerking a device equipped with one or more hooks through the water for the purpose of impaling fish within one thousand feet downstream of a hydroelectric dam. Nothing in this section prohibits the use of lures or baited hooks for the purpose of catching fish."

Time effective

SECTION    2.    This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.

Ratified the 8th day of June, 2007.

Approved the 14th day of June, 2007.
