HONORING JOSHUA PRESTON MOORE ON THE OCCASION OF HIS EIGHTY-SECOND BIRTHDAY AND CONGRATULATING HIM FOR HIS ROLE AS A PATRIOTIC CITIZEN WHO HAS A GREAT LOVE FOR HIS STATE, HIS COUNTRY AND THEIR PROUD HISTORY, AND FOR HIS ACTIVE PARTICIPATION IN THE PROTECTION OF AMERICAN FREEDOM AND THE CONSTITUTION.
Whereas, Joshua Preston Moore was born in Bennettsville, South Carolina on May 12, 1925 to William Preston Moore and Gladys McInnis Moore; and
Whereas, Mr. Moore married the late Carolyn Odom Moore, with whom he had one daughter, Lynn Moore Brewer; and
Whereas, Mr. Moore was educated in the public school system of Marlboro County and graduated from Bennettsville High School in 1943; and
Whereas, Mr. Moore entered the Army Air Corp on July 15, 1943 where he served for thirty-two months and continued to serve his country in the Army Reserve and the South Carolina National Guard, from which he retired in 1977 at the rank of Brigadier General; and
Whereas, Mr. Moore was the proud owner of Preston Moore Texaco Service Station, Preston Moore Oil Company, worked in the Adjutant General's Office under General T. Eston Marchant, and served as Director of Emergency Preparedness for the State of South Carolina from March 1983 to June 1987; and
Whereas, Mr. Moore received the Order of the Palmetto in 1987 from Governor Carroll Campbell, received the prestigious Eagle Scout Award, served as Scout Master in his hometown of Bennettsville, coached Dixie Youth Baseball and has lead many young people to become productive citizens. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate:
That the members of the Senate, by this Resolution, honor Mr. Joshua Preston Moore on the occasion of his eighty-second birthday and congratulate Mr. Moore for his role and service as a patriotic citizen of this State and this country.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mr. Joshua Preston Moore.
