A SENATE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE SAMUEL H. JONES FOR HIS TWENTY-FIVE YEARS OF INVALUABLE SERVICE TO THE STATE AND THE PEOPLE OF SOUTH CAROLINA, UPON THE OCCASION OF HIS RETIREMENT FROM THE STATE BUDGET AND CONTROL BOARD, AND TO WISH HIM SUCCESS IN HIS FUTURE ENDEAVORS.

Whereas, Samuel H. Jones, a native of Eastover, South Carolina, began his service at the State Budget and Control Board in 1980 and is responsible for managing the board's accounting system; and

Whereas, he graduated from Central Carolina Technical College with a degree in electricity and graduated from Voorhees College with a degree in business management; and

Whereas, prior to working for the State Budget and Control Board, Samuel H. Jones was employed by the South Carolina Senate and also with the South Carolina Highway Department where he served as a state highway patrolman; and

Whereas, Mr. Jones was the first African-American president of the South Carolina Society of Certified Public Managers; and

Whereas, he also served as president of the South Carolina Basketball Officials Association, was the first African-American director of the Columbia Basketball Officials Association, and was elected on the first ballot to the South Carolina Basketball Officials Hall of Fame; and

Whereas, it is appropriate for members of the South Carolina Senate to pause in their deliberations so that they may honor this extraordinary South Carolinian and thank him for an exemplary career of public service upon the occasion of his retirement. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the Senate, by this resolution, recognize Samuel H. Jones for his twenty-five years of invaluable service to the State and the people of South Carolina, upon the occasion of his retirement from the State Budget and Control Board, and wish him success in his future endeavors.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mr. Samuel H. Jones.
