A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

CONGRATULATING R. DENNIS HENNETT OF GREER ON THE OCCASION OF HIS RETIREMENT AS PRESIDENT AND CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER OF GREER STATE BANK AND EXTENDING TO HIM THE BEST WISHES OF THE MEMBERS OF THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY FOR GOOD HEALTH AND HAPPINESS IN THE YEARS TO COME.

Whereas, the members of the General Assembly note that R. Dennis Hennett, president and chief executive of Greer State Bank, after a thirty-eight year career in banking and after having served as CEO of Greer State Bank since the bank's organization in 1987, is entering retirement; and

Whereas, this Woodruff native and 1965 Furman graduate began his career in banking in 1969 with Southern Bank and Trust in Greenville, and pursued further education with an MA from Furman in 1967 and took his graduate degree in banking at the Stonier Graduate School of Banking at Rutgers University; and

Whereas, in service to his profession, he served for three years on the American Bankers Association's Community Bankers Advisory Council, as President of the Independent Banks of South Carolina in 2000-2001, and as a director and officer of that association from 1998-2002, director of the South Carolina Bankers Association for three years, and as chairman of the South Carolina Community Bankers Council for two years; and

Whereas, his public spiritedness has called him to extraordinary community service, among which is included his service as chairman of the Greer Strategic Planning Team in 1992 when BMW came to Greer, as chairman and director of the Greater Greer Economic Development Corporation, his current service on the BMW Community Advisory Panel, treasurer and director of the Greater Greer Chamber of Commerce, as chairman of the Business-Education Partnership for the School District of Greenville County, and his service on the boards of the Greer Development Corporation and the Greer Partnership for Tomorrow; and

Whereas, his yeoman service in the community brought him the Citizen of the Year Award of the Greer Lions Club in 1992, the Volunteer of the Year Award of the Greer Chamber of Commerce in 1993, the Superintendent's Award of the School District of Greenville County in 1992, and the Vocational Service Award of the Rotary Club of Greater Greer in 2004; and

Whereas, it is appropriate for the members of the General Assembly to pause in their deliberations so that they may congratulate this distinguished son of South Carolina on the occasion of his retirement and add their voices to the chorus honoring him for his long and successful career both in business and service to his community, state, and nation. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, congratulate R. Dennis Hennett of Greer on the occasion of his retirement as President and Chief Executive Officer of Greer State Bank and extend to him their best wishes for good health and happiness in the years to come.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mr. Hennett.
