A SENATE RESOLUTION

EXTENDING SINCERE APPRECIATION TO MIKE GARDNER FOR HIS EXEMPLARY AND DEDICATED SERVICE TO THE CITIZENS OF THE STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA.

Whereas, Mike Gardner provided security for former Governor Carroll Campbell, Jr., and his family on four continents from 1987 to 1995; and

Whereas, Mr. Gardner was Lead Advance agent for Governor Campbell and the South Carolina delegation on their first visit to Moscow, Russia in 1993; and

Whereas, Mr. Gardner was Lead Advance agent for Governor Campbell in Munich, Germany numerous times during the Governor's recruitment trips involving BMW; and

Whereas, Mr. Gardner was the National Governor's Security Association (NGSA) Southeastern Vice President Concerning Executive Protection in 1994; and

Whereas, Mr. Gardner served as South Carolina Highway Patrol Troop Three Commander from September 2, 1999, to January 17, 2007. Troop Three includes Anderson, Greenville, Oconee, Pickens, and Spartanburg Counties; and

Whereas, Mr. Gardner served as South Carolina Highway Patrol Troop Three Commander during the transition from the District approach to the Troop concept, which involves Posts and designates counties as Posts to utilize officers more efficiently; and

Whereas, Mr. Gardner developed the Patrol S.T.O.P. Team that focused on Interstate enforcement, DUI detection and fatality reduction, a concept that was utilized statewide for several years; and

Whereas, Mr. Gardner served as a Patrol School instructor regarding Executive Protection; and

Whereas, Mr. Gardner received a Certificate of Commendation from the Department of Public Safety for exceptional dedicated service and leadership from former Department of Public Safety Director Boykin Rose; and

Wherefore, Mr. Gardner received the prestigious Order of the Palmetto in January 1995. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the Senate of South Carolina, by this resolution, extend their sincere appreciation to Mr. Mike Gardner for his many years of exemplary and dedicated service to the State of South Carolina.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mr. Mike Gardner.
