A SENATE RESOLUTION

TO CELEBRATE THE LIFE OF MILLARD G. SMITH, OF ANDERSON COUNTY, AND EXPRESS THE APPRECIATION OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA SENATE FOR HIS OUTSTANDING VOLUNTEER AND COMMUNITY SERVICE.

Whereas, it is with great pleasure that the Senate recognizes individuals who are dedicated to giving their time and energy to volunteer and community service; and

Whereas, Mr. Millard G. Smith, Anderson County Board of Education administrator and an exemplary volunteer worker for many years, contributed untold hours of valuable service to his community and beyond and is thereby worthy of praise; and

Whereas, humbly putting others before himself, he was always willing to lend a hand and worked to benefit the programs of many community, civic, and business organizations, including Starr United Methodist Church, Anderson County Educators Federal Credit Union, Anderson County Council on Aging, the Vocational Education State Board, the Greater Anderson Rotary Club, and the Anderson County Prayer Task Force board; and

Whereas, richly deserving the recognition, this servant-hearted man was awarded the Order of the Silver Crescent, South Carolina's highest honor for volunteer and community service, in 2005; and

Whereas, South Carolina has been blessed by Mr. Smith's extraordinary volunteer and community work, as well as his public service, and is grateful for the wisdom, enthusiasm, and strong support he brought to all he endeavored to accomplish; and

Whereas, Millard Smith, who passed on to higher things last year, will long be remembered for the personable way he listened to and respected all, as well as for his great compassion and dedication. He will be missed not only by his family but also by many others who held him in great affection and appreciated the fine man he was. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, celebrate the life of Millard G. Smith, of Anderson County, and express the appreciation of the South Carolina Senate for his outstanding volunteer and community service.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mrs. Doris Hamby Smith, beloved wife of Millard G. Smith, for the family.
