A JOINT RESOLUTION

EXTENDING FOR THIRTY DAYS THE DEADLINE FOR TIMELY CERTIFICATION OF A FAVORABLE VOTE IN A REFERENDUM ON THE IMPOSITION OF A LOCAL OPTION SALES AND USE TAX HELD AT THE TIME OF THE GENERAL ELECTION OF 2006.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

SECTION    1.    If a referendum on the imposition of a local option sales and use tax was held pursuant to Chapter 10, Title 4 of the 1976 Code at the time of the 2006 general election and resulted in a favorable vote, a certification of that favorable vote to the South Carolina Department of Revenue within thirty days of the otherwise applicable deadline for such certification is deemed timely made for purposes of the date of imposition of the tax in 2007.

SECTION    2.    This joint resolution takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
