A BILL

TO AMEND ACT 256 OF 1981, AS AMENDED, RELATING TO THE SCHOOL DISTRICT OF MARLBORO COUNTY, SO AS TO PROVIDE THAT THE MEMBERS ARE ELECTED FROM ELECTION DISTRICTS CORRESPONDING TO THE EIGHT SINGLE-MEMBER ELECTION DISTRICTS FROM WHICH MEMBERS OF THE GOVERNING BODY OF MARLBORO COUNTY ARE ELECTED.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

SECTION    1.    Section 5 of Act 256 of 1981, as last amended by Act 457 of 2002, is further amended to read:

"Section    5.    For the purpose of electing members of the Marlboro County Board of Education beginning in 2002 2008, the School District of Marlboro County is divided into eight single-member election districts, from which each member must reside and be elected by the qualified electors of that election district, and as shown on the official map designated as S-69-00-02 prepared by and on file with the Office of Research and Statistical Services of the State Budget and Control Board corresponding with the eight single-member election districts for the election of members to the county council of Marlboro County."

SECTION    2.    This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
