A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO EXPRESS THE PROFOUND SORROW OF THE MEMBERS OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES UPON THE DEATH OF MRS. DELIA PERKINS "DEE" WHALEY, OF RICHLAND COUNTY, AND TO EXTEND THE DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO HER FAMILY AND MANY FRIENDS.

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives were deeply saddened to learn of the death of Mrs. Delia Perkins "Dee" Whaley on March 11, 2007; and

Whereas, born February 2, 1917, in Milledgeville, Georgia, to the late Washington Henry and Pearl Frances Fontana Perkins, young "Dee" grew up in Augusta, Georgia; and

Whereas, in 1936, she moved to Columbia with her husband, Marion Leonard Whaley, and for many years worked side by side with him in the Whaley Optical Company, which he founded; and

Whereas, after her move to Columbia, Mrs. Whaley became active in the life of the city, beginning, among other activities, participation in the bridge club she played with for over fifty years, as well as enjoying membership in Forest Lake Club; and

Whereas, known for her kindness and generosity, she was a member of Shandon United Methodist Church and the Wesley Fellowship Sunday School class and exemplified a Christlike life, as well as true Southern hospitality, to family and those blessed to call her friend; and

Whereas, Mrs. Whaley is survived by daughter Marion Whaley Moore, of Columbia; son and daughter-in-law Dr. Preston A. Whaley and Elizabeth Whaley, of Bradenton, Florida; daughter and son-in-law Debra Whaley Scott and Ron Scott, of Columbia; grandchildren Robin Whaley; Linda Swindler; Griffith Moore and his wife, Dawn; Preston Whaley, Jr.; William Whaley; Christopher Whaley and his wife, Brenda; Key Rosser and her husband, Allen; Shayne Mora and his wife, Rosemary; Robert Scott; Jordan Scott; and Carter Scott; and numerous great-grandchildren; and

Whereas, still vitally interested in life even after the death of her husband, Dee Whaley continued to bring joy to others as she lived her life to the glory of God; and

Whereas, on March 11, 2007, the Lord called his servant Dee Whaley home, and she will be missed by all who knew and loved her. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the House of Representatives of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, express their profound sorrow upon the death of Mrs. Delia Perkins "Dee" Whaley, of Richland County, and extend the deepest sympathy to her family and many friends.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mrs. Marion Whaley Moore, Dr. Preston A. Whaley, and Mrs. Debra Whaley Scott.
