TO COMMEND AND CONGRATULATE IRMO HIGH SCHOOL HEAD COACH PHIL SAVITZ ON REACHING HIS RECORD-SETTING FIVE HUNDREDTH SOCCER WIN AND ON THEREBY MAKING SOUTH CAROLINA SPORTS HISTORY.
Whereas, Head Coach Phil Savitz piloted the Yellow Jackets of Irmo High School to a shut-out 14-0 victory over North Augusta on Thursday, April 24, 2007, at Irmo, to kick in Coach Savitz's five hundredth soccer win; and
Whereas, to reach this milestone, Coach Savitz, with grueling practices, hard work, and determination, has forged his soccer players into top contenders; and
Whereas, this equally top-flight soccer coach is the first in South Carolina sports history to build such a record; and
Whereas, since he began coaching at Irmo in 1980, his Yellow Jackets have amassed an amazing record of thirteen state-championship wins and six more state-championship finalist berths, and he himself has received many honors for his coaching excellence, including Region Coach of the Year, South Carolina AAAA Coach of the Year, High School Sports Report Lifetime Achievement Award, National Soccer Coaches Association of America Southern Region Coach of the Year and Region III Coach of the Year, and National Coach of the Year finalist. He is first in South Carolina in number of wins and in number of state championships and was first to reach three hundred, four hundred, and now five hundred wins; and
Whereas, Coach Savitz has brought great pride and recognition to his school and community, and the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives are pleased to have this opportunity to recognize such an outstanding coach, the "winningest" coach in South Carolina soccer annals. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and commend Irmo High School Head Coach Phil Savitz on reaching his record-setting five hundredth soccer win and on thereby making South Carolina sports history.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Coach Phil Savitz.
