A HOUSE RESOLUTION

RECOGNIZING GLENDA PATRICIA SIMS, OF SPARTANBURG COUNTY, ON THE OCCASION OF HER RETIREMENT AS PROFESSOR OF NURSING AT THE UNIVERSITY OF SOUTH CAROLINA UPSTATE AND EXPRESSING GRATITUDE FOR HER DECADES OF SERVICE IN BOTH THE CLINICAL PRACTICE AND TEACHING OF NURSING.

Whereas, Glenda Patricia Sims, of Spartanburg County, is retiring from a distinguished professorship in nursing education at The University of South Carolina Upstate; and

Whereas, before earning that position and her Ph.D. in Nursing Education at Georgia State University, she was the Director of the university's associate degree nursing program; and

Whereas, her professional life includes not only the instruction of aspiring nurses, but also thirty-seven years of clinical nursing experience in various specialty areas including orthopedics, critical care, and adult health; and

Whereas, her illustrious and numerous contributions to the nursing profession have been recognized over the years by her community, her fellow faculty members and students, and the profession itself; and

Whereas, during her productive career, she has presented papers, published in professional journals, and won numerous grants, all with special attention to gender and class health issues; and

Whereas, the nursing profession of this State and the health of South Carolina's citizens have been well served by this ultimate professional educator. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the House of Representatives of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, recognize Glenda Patricia Sims, of Spartanburg County, on the occasion of her retirement as professor of nursing at The University of South Carolina Upstate and express gratitude for her decades of service in both the clinical practice and teaching of nursing.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Glenda Patricia Sims.
