A HOUSE RESOLUTION

REQUESTING STATE AGENCIES SELLING LAND IN EXCESS OF FORTY ACRES TO SUBMIT THE PROPOSAL FOR SUCH A SALE TO THE LOCAL LEGISLATIVE DELEGATION FOR APPROVAL.

Whereas, the members of the House of Representatives are stewards of the public trust and all resources of the State, the use of which must be in furtherance of the public good; and

Whereas, state agencies that own real property also must use this property to the furtherance of the public good and to the highest and best use for the benefit of the State; and

Whereas, in that real property is an especially valuable asset to the State and its residents, with the potential for myriad uses, any change that would remove such property from the public domain must be stringently evaluated; and

Whereas, in order to ensure that the State protects its real property resources, the sale of state-owned land should be approved before such a sale is proposed. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, request state agencies selling land in excess of forty acres to submit the proposal for such a sale to the local legislative delegation for approval.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be sent to the Governor, each department or agency of the State, and the State Budget and Control Board.
