A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND GIVE TRIBUTE TO THE SELFLESS AND MEANINGFUL EFFORTS OF MISS JANEY TURNER, OF EASLEY, ON BEHALF OF THOSE IN THE ARMED FORCES OF THE UNITED STATES, STATIONED AROUND THE WORLD.

Whereas, at the tender age of eight, when most young girls spend their time with dolls and bicycles and homework projects, Miss Janey Turner began her efforts to relieve the loneliness of soldiers deployed far from their native homes; and

Whereas, not only does Miss Turner send messages and care packages, but she also created a nonprofit organization, Hands for Soldiers, for the purpose of reaching more troops with her ministry of appreciation and good will; and

Whereas, her idea is to fill gloves with such items as hard candy, toothbrushes, playing cards, razors, notepads, nail clippers, and the like and to add handwritten notes from herself to thank them individually for their service and to express her desire to give them a helping hand; and

Whereas, in the past two years, Miss Turner has reached more than 10,176 soldiers with Hands for Soldiers; and

Whereas, now ten years old, Miss Turner travels extensively to speak to schools and National Guard Units to present the work of Hands for Soldiers; and

Whereas, it is appropriate for the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives to pause in their deliberations to applaud the efforts of Miss Janey Turner who serves as a shining example of ingenuity and patriotism at their best. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the House of Representatives of the State of South Carolina recognize and give tribute to the selfless and meaningful efforts of Miss Janey Turner, of Easley, on behalf of those in the Armed Forces of the United States, stationed around the world.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Miss Janey Turner.
