THE COMMITTEE ON INVITATIONS

To whom was referred a Concurrent Resolution (H. 4464) to declare the week of February 23 - March 1, 2008, as "Entrepreneurship Week" in South Carolina, in recognition of the ongoing social and economic contributions, etc., respectfully

REPORT:

Has polled the Concurrent Resolution out majority favorable.

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO DECLARE THE WEEK OF FEBRUARY 23 - MARCH 1, 2008, AS "ENTREPRENEURSHIP WEEK" IN SOUTH CAROLINA, IN RECOGNITION OF THE ONGOING SOCIAL AND ECONOMIC CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE AMERICAN WAY OF LIFE MADE BY SOUTH CAROLINA'S ENTREPRENEURS.

Whereas, when entrepreneurs are free to create and innovate and reap the benefit of their work, they make the world better for themselves and their fellow citizens; and

Whereas, entrepreneurs have been the source of economic innovation throughout the history of the nation, and the entire society has been improved because of the new ways of doing things that have been brought about by people who market their ideas; and

Whereas, according to the Department of Labor, most of the new jobs created throughout the United States in the past decade have come from the creative efforts of entrepreneurs and small businesses, which have been expanding and advancing technology and fueling the recent growth in the economy; and

Whereas, one of the keys to prosperity for our State is entrepreneurship, led by men and women who live out the values that go with it, specifically, individual freedom, integrity, responsibility, and self-reliance; and

Whereas, one of the rightful roles of government is to encourage people who take entrepreneurial risks, work hard, and succeed. Accordingly, the General Assembly, grateful for the accomplishments of South Carolina's own entrepreneurs, takes great pleasure in saluting them and their visionary contributions to the Palmetto State. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the South Carolina General Assembly, by this resolution, declare the week of February 23 through March 1, 2008, as "Entrepreneurship Week" in South Carolina, in recognition of the ongoing social and economic contributions to the American way of life made by South Carolina's entrepreneurs.
