A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND CONGRATULATE HALEIGH CHAPPELL, 2007 PRE-TEEN SOUTH CAROLINA (SENIOR), OF CALHOUN FALLS, AND TO HONOR THIS TWELVE-YEAR-OLD FOR SETTING AND REACHING NUMEROUS PERSONAL GOALS AND FOR MANY HOURS OF SIGNIFICANT SERVICE TO HER COMMUNITY.

Whereas, seventh-grade student Haleigh Chappell was named 2007 Pre-Teen South Carolina (Senior) sponsored by the American Academy for Pre-Teen Achievers; and

Whereas, recognizing each participant's achievements, the Pre-Teen America Program has offered wholesome family activities since its inception in 1990. The program helps each young lady to learn to set goals and develop skills and also promotes self-improvement and confidence; and

Whereas, criteria for evaluation of participants who receive special recognition from the program include academic achievement, volunteer service to the community, school honors and activities, and development of personal skills; and

Whereas, Haleigh Chappell has exhibited beneficial compassion on those in her community in need, as when she coordinated a fundraiser for a classmate diagnosed with cancer and when she raised money for Palmetto Health Children's Hospital; and

Whereas, when most children her age plan summers filled with swimming pools and movie theaters, Haleigh spends her summers assisting drivers with Meals on Wheels and volunteering at the Calhoun Falls Senior Center to do such mundane work as cleaning and washing dishes as well as serving meals and providing daily entertainment after meals; and

Whereas, a member of the Abbeville Opera House Youth Theater, Haleigh has performed in several productions at the Abbeville Opera House and is an accomplished student of dance, voice and piano; and

Whereas, Haleigh's academic discipline, marked with similar fervor, has enabled her to maintain an A average in every subject throughout her academic career and to be included among members of the prestigious Beta Club for students who exhibit academic excellence; and

Whereas, Haleigh's various accomplishments and abilities have culled numerous commendation, such as the Governor's Citizenship Award, Helping Hands award from Palmetto Health Children's Hospital, the Youngest Volunteer award for the Piedmont Agency on Aging in 2007, and Wendy's Dance Academy Dancer of the Year in 2005 and 2007; and

Whereas, the members of the House of Representatives take great pleasure in acknowledging citizens who contribute to the quality of life enjoyed in many parts of the Palmetto State, and they are pleased to thank Haleigh Chappell not only for lightening the burdens of so many but also for the example she sets in the quality of her character. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and congratulate Haleigh Chappell, 2007 Pre-Teen South Carolina (Senior), of Calhoun Falls, and honor this twelve-year-old for setting and reaching numerous personal goals and for many hours of significant service to her community.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Haleigh Chappell.
