A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO THANK JONATHAN ANDREW GRAY II, OF GREENVILLE COUNTY, FOR HIS KIND GIFT OF ARTWORK PORTRAYING THE PALMETTO TREE AND CRESCENT, SYMBOLS OF THE STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA.

Whereas, the House of Representatives is pleased to learn of the kind gift of artwork bestowed on Representative Eric Bedingfield by Jonathan Andrew Gray II, age nine; and

Whereas, a matted and framed oil-pastel rendition of the palmetto, our official state tree, and crescent, Jonathan's South Carolina-themed artwork will be displayed in Representative Bedingfield's Blatt Building office, and his House colleagues are eager to visit the site and view Jonathan's creative efforts; and

Whereas, while Jonathan is a prize-winning artist, having captured the 2006 Greenville County School District Art Award for his work Why Harley Had to Die (Harley being his pet dog), he has many other interests, as well. He has competed in the JMX Motorcross, has played baseball since he was four, starts at quarterback for the Fountain Inn Recreation League's football team, and recently won the 2008 Ellen Woodside Elementary School writing award. This well-rounded young man, who likes to help his dad in the office and store at Palmetto Boys State each summer, worships at Berea First Baptist Church; and

Whereas, the House of Representatives takes pleasure in expressing its appreciation for Jonathan's gift of artwork to Representative Bedingfield, and the members, expecting to hear of great accomplishments in years to come, encourage Jonathan to keep creating. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, thank Jonathan Andrew Gray II, of Greenville County, for his kind gift of artwork portraying the palmetto tree and crescent, symbols of the State of South Carolina.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Jonathan Gray.
