TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR THE WACCAMAW HIGH SCHOOL BOYS VARSITY TENNIS TEAM, OF GEORGETOWN COUNTY, FOR A SUCCESSFUL SEASON, AND TO CONGRATULATE THE PLAYERS AND COACHES FOR CLAIMING THE 2008 CLASS AA STATE CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE.
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives were pleased to learn that the Waccamaw High School boys varsity tennis team won the Class AA State Championship title on May 10, 2008; and
Whereas, in their second undefeated season in a row, the Waccamaw Warriors claimed the state title against the Christ Church Episcopal School Cavaliers to win their second consecutive state championship; and
Whereas, leading their team, seniors Wesley Moran, the Warriors' first All-American player, and Thomas Ligon, an All-State player, have signed to play in the fall for Clemson University and Presbyterian College, respectively; and
Whereas, adding to their double victory in the state contest, the Warriors have been lower-state tennis champions for six consecutive years and regional champions for nine consecutive years and have brought pride and recognition to their school and their community; and
Whereas, in a sport that requires strength, speed, agility, technique, and endurance, Coach James B. Brown and Assistant Coach Browder McGill used their own athletic ability and experience in rigorous practices to forge a championship team and to teach the players lessons that have prepared them well for life; and
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives commend the Waccamaw Warriors for garnering the 2008 Class AA State Championship title and wait to hear of future successes from this talented team. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and honor the Waccamaw High School boys varsity tennis team, of Georgetown County, for a successful season, and congratulate the players and coaches for claiming the 2008 Class AA State Championship title.
