A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND COMMEND THE ALLENDALE-FAIRFAX HIGH SCHOOL BOYS TRACK TEAM, OF ALLENDALE COUNTY, ON ITS IMPRESSIVE WIN OF THE 2008 CLASS A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE.

Whereas, on May 10, 2008, the Allendale-Fairfax High School boys track team showed their top-flight mettle by capturing the 2008 Class A State Championship title, outdistancing Lamar High School, the Tigers' nearest competitor, 139-58 at Columbia's Spring Valley High School track field; and

Whereas, Coach Wayne Farmer and his assistant coaches, Eddie Dixon, Ronald Geohaghan, Dary Brockington, Charles Manigault, and Mark Lott, with grueling practices, hard work, and determination, built their boys track program into a championship team; and

Whereas, no strangers to the taste of victory, the Tigers merit tribute for their incredible championship win, the latest in a back-to-back dominating streak of track championships nailed down by the team; and

Whereas, adding luster to an already stellar record, runner Michael Kirkland won four gold medals again this year. With last year's medaling performance, he became only the fourteenth high school track athlete in the history of South Carolina to win four gold medals at a championship match; with the repeat performance this year, he shot to a new record since no one has ever before accomplished such a medaling feat back-to-back; and

Whereas, in addition, teammate Lennel Elmore matched Michael Kirkland medal for medal this year, bringing home four gold medals of his own; and

Whereas, the members of the Allendale-Fairfax High School boys track team have brought great pride and recognition to their school, community, and State, and the South Carolina House of Representatives, expecting great achievements in the future from these talented athletes, is pleased to have this opportunity to recognize such a wonderful group of young men. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and commend the Allendale-Fairfax High School boys track team, of Allendale County, on its impressive win of the 2008 Class A State Championship title.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Principal Curtis Dunbar and Coach Wayne Farmer, of Allendale-Fairfax High School.
