A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE THE RAISING OF THE ELLISOR HILL MONUMENT COMMEMORATING THE FORMER ELLISOR HILL COMMUNITY OF CAYCE, AND TO EXPRESS THE GRATITUDE OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA GENERAL ASSEMBLY TO THE MEMBERS OF THE ELLISOR HILL REUNION FOR THUS ADDING TO THE BEAUTY OF THE AREA AND RECORDING AN IMPORTANT PART OF ITS HISTORY.

Whereas, the South Carolina General Assembly is pleased to note that the members of the Ellisor Hill Reunion have constructed a monument to commemorate the former Ellisor Hill community, settled in 1899 by their forefathers as the original suburb of the Town of Granby and now a part of Cayce; and

Whereas, on property purchased from the Taylor Plantation, Paul W. Ellisor, the original settler of Ellisor Hill and a founding father of the City of Cayce, built many small farmhouses for families moving into the new settlement; and

Whereas, this suburb grew and became a close-knit community known as Ellisor Hill until the 1980s, at which time commercial interests began to acquire the property as valuable to their needs; and

Whereas, still close-knit in friendship, descendants of the original families celebrate their heritage with the annual Ellisor Hill Reunion, this year being held in conjunction with the dedication of the new Ellisor Hill monument on March 31, 2007, at 3 p.m., with a ceremony and reception at the Cayce Historical Museum; and

Whereas, soon to feature surrounding trees, flowers, and seating for visitors, the new monument is a fitting tribute to the Ellisor Hill Reunion's heritage and will add both beauty and historic value to the monument's location on New State Road near I-277, which is the baseline of the former Ellisor Hill community. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring:

That the members of the South Carolina General Assembly, by this resolution, recognize the raising of the Ellisor Hill monument commemorating the former Ellisor Hill community of Cayce, and express their gratitude to the members of the Ellisor Hill Reunion for thus adding to the beauty of the area and recording an important part of its history.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to the Ellisor Hill Reunion.
