TO CONGRATULATE AND HONOR BETHUNE-BOWMAN MIDDLE SCHOOL, OF ORANGEBURG CONSOLIDATED SCHOOL DISTRICT 5, ON RECEIVING THE COVETED 2007 PALMETTO SILVER AWARD.
Whereas, the Senate is pleased to learn that Bethune-Bowman Middle School has been granted the coveted 2007 Palmetto Silver Award; and
Whereas, each year the South Carolina Department of Education recognizes state schools that have demonstrated high levels of performance and improvement, designating such schools Palmetto Gold Award and Palmetto Silver Award recipients; and
Whereas, basing their selections on the absolute and improvement ratings assigned to each South Carolina school on the previous year's report cards, the South Carolina Department of Education has granted 2007 honors to a total of three hundred four schools, one hundred fifty-nine awards being gold and one hundred forty-five being silver; and
Whereas, thanks to the hard work of students, parents, faculty, staff, and administration, Bethune-Bowman Middle School has captured a Palmetto Silver Award, with its accompanying cash award of seven thousand four hundred eleven dollars, and has demonstrated what can be accomplished when all stakeholders have high expectations and strive to help students reach the full measure of their talents and skills; and
Whereas, fully expecting continued academic excellence from this standout school, the Senate is proud to recognize the fine educational achievement of 2007 Palmetto Silver Award winner Bethune-Bowman Middle School. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate:
That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, congratulate and honor Bethune-Bowman Middle School, of Orangeburg Consolidated School District 5, on receiving the coveted 2007 Palmetto Silver Award.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Bethune-Bowman Middle School.
