A SENATE RESOLUTION

TO EXPRESS APPRECIATION TO MR. JAMES E.B. "JIM" WALLACE FOR HIS SIXTEEN YEARS OF DEDICATED SERVICE AS ASSISTANT SCOUTMASTER AND SCOUTMASTER TO BOY SCOUT TROOP 312 IN IRMO.

Whereas, the Senate notes that, after sixteen years of dedicated service, eight as assistant scoutmaster and, more recently, eight as scoutmaster to Boy Scout Troop 312 in Irmo, Mr. James E.B. "Jim" Wallace is stepping down from the post he has filled so admirably for so long; and

Whereas, during his sixteen years of service to the troop, Jim Wallace led hundreds of boys on monthly campouts and hikes, as well as on an expedition to Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico; and

Whereas, a man of faith and an active member of the sponsoring Episcopal Church of St. Simon and St. Jude in Irmo, he served as troop chaplain and patiently shepherded boys toward the right path, never missing an opportunity to tell a poignant story that guided boys and other adult leaders alike. Typically, he would "hold court" in the meadow of Camp Old Indian in Greenville during summer camp, where the campers soon came to appreciate his grandfatherly understanding and wisdom; and

Whereas, greatly desiring his scouts to grow into fine men, Jim Wallace made time during each troop meeting for a "scoutmaster's minute," during which he would introduce a point on self-improvement, on having a spirit of gratitude for gifts and blessings, and other important life lessons; and

Whereas, his troop members will remember him as a caring scoutmaster who always had an extra flashlight or sleeping bag for boys who had forgotten them and who, as a Dutch oven chef, dished up the most tantalizing paella and chicken provençale; and

Whereas, Mr. Wallace's commitment to enriching the lives and developing the character and leadership abilities of countless young men has earned him the well-deserved gratitude of several generations of young men and their parents; and

Whereas, the Senate takes great pleasure in recognizing individuals who have fostered the youth of this great State and is privileged to join with Mr. Wallace's friends at the Boy Scouts of America in honoring his selfless, generous giving of time and talent to this worthwhile endeavor. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, express appreciation to Mr. James E.B. "Jim" Wallace for his sixteen years of dedicated service as assistant scoutmaster and scoutmaster to Boy Scout Troop 312 in Irmo.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Mr. Jim Wallace.
