A SENATE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR THE JOHNSONVILLE HIGH SCHOOL GIRLS TRACK TEAM OF FLORENCE COUNTY FOR A SUCCESSFUL SEASON, AND TO CONGRATULATE THEM FOR CAPTURING THE 2010 CLASS A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE.

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate were pleased to learn that the Johnsonville High School girls track team recently capped an undefeated season of eighty-three victories by winning their twelfth state championship in Class A; and

Whereas, the Johnsonville Lady Flashes not only recorded an undefeated season of competition, including victories against higher classified teams at Sumter High School and West Florence High School, but in the process secured their twenty-sixth consecutive regional championship, further solidifying their lock claim to being the "winningest" girls state track team in South Carolina history; and

Whereas, in addition to winning state championships in 1991, 1992, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2006, 2008, and this year, the Johnsonville High School Girls track team also finished runners-up in statewide competition in 1993, 1994, 2004, 2005, and 2009; and

Whereas, long-jumper Keyarah Turner opened the day with the Lady Flashes' first of eight first place finishes, followed by Christina Pajaro's first place finish in the pole vaulting competition. Johnsonville High School records were shattered by Quintella Dollard in the 100 meter hurdle and 400 meter hurdle competitions, and by senior Erica Morris in the 200 meter and 400 meter sprint competitions. Overall, the Lady Flashes set a new school and Class A record of 142 points in the State Track Meet, besting the second-place finisher by over fifty points; and

Whereas, in a sport that requires self-discipline, stamina, and athleticism, Coach Stevie Phillips and Assistant Coaches Brian Morse and Justin Files have forged a championship team through rigorous practices and steely discipline; and

Whereas, responding to superior coaching and capitalizing on God-given talents, team members London Barnhill, Madison Capps, Quintella Dollard, Cayley Gunter, Shanice Hamilton, Conner Harrelson, Kayla Ho, Erica Morris, Sabrina Nesmith, Christina Pajaro, Allison Rowell, Crystal Singletary, Tiffany Stanley, Keyarah Turner, Crystal Williams, and Lakera Woodberry made their mark in South Carolina sports history and earned life-long memories; and

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate commend the Johnsonville girls track team for another outstanding season and for bringing great pride and positive recognition to their school, community, and families. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, recognize and honor the Johnsonville High School girls track team of Florence County for a successful season, and congratulate them for capturing the 2010 Class A State Championship title.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Coach and Principal Stevie Phillips.
