A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO EXPRESS THE APPRECIATION OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA GENERAL ASSEMBLY FOR THE EVERGREEN COMPANY'S COMMITMENT TO OUR STATE, AND TO COMMEND THE COMPANY FOR THIRTY-FIVE YEARS OF EXCEPTIONAL SERVICE, LEADERSHIP, AND GROWTH IN THE PORT OF CHARLESTON AND BEYOND.

Whereas, an ocean shipping company, Evergreen was founded in 1968 with only a single cargo vessel but with great vision and spirit; and

Whereas, today, Evergreen is one of the world's leading global ocean carriers, transporting goods between ports in eighty countries around the world; and

Whereas, in 1975, Evergreen selected the Port of Charleston for its inaugural service between Asia and the United States and later chose Charleston for the world's first two-way around-the-world service; and

Whereas, this year marks the thirty-fifth anniversary of Evergreen's presence in South Carolina's Port of Charleston; and

Whereas, during this long and prosperous relationship, Evergreen has invested heavily in ships and in people to serve trade through Charleston and has sent thousands of ships to South Carolina's coast to handle immense volumes of international commerce; and

Whereas, while serving the Port of Charleston, Evergreen has contributed greatly to the economic development of South Carolina and the entire region by connecting companies with markets and suppliers around the world. Now therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring:

That the members of the South Carolina General Assembly, by this resolution, express appreciation for the Evergreen company's commitment to our State, and commend the company for thirty-five years of exceptional service, leadership, and growth in the Port of Charleston and beyond.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the Evergreen company.
