VERSIONS OF THIS BILL
TO AMEND THE CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, BY ADDING SECTION 59-53-1990 SO AS TO REQUIRE EVERY PUBLIC MIDDLE SCHOOL AND PUBLIC HIGH SCHOOL OF THIS STATE EACH TO OFFER AT LEAST FIVE CAREER AND TECHNOLOGY COURSES TO THEIR RESPECTIVE STUDENTS FOR ELECTIVE CREDIT.
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:
SECTION 1. Article 21, Chapter 53, Title 59 of the 1976 Code is amended by adding:
"Section 59-53-1990. (A) Notwithstanding another provision of law and beginning with the 2010-2011 school year, every public middle school and public high school of this State each shall offer at least five career and technology courses to their respective students for elective credit.
(B) As used in this section, 'career and technology course' means a course that provides practical experience in a particular occupational field."
SECTION 2. This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
