VERSIONS OF THIS BILL
TO RECOGNIZE AND COMMEND THE MARION HIGH SCHOOL "LADY SWAMP FOXES" BASKETBALL TEAM ON ITS IMPRESSIVE WIN OF THE 2009 CLASS AA STATE CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE, AND TO HONOR THE PLAYERS, COACH, AND STAFF ON AN OUTSTANDING SEASON.
Whereas, fully prepared for the challenge, the Marion High School "Lady Swamp Foxes" basketball team crowned its superlative season by capturing the 2009 Class AA State Championship title, defeating Pendleton 58-54 at Columbia's Colonial Center on Saturday, March 7, 2009; and
Whereas, excitement over this title win was especially intense because it marked the first girls' state basketball championship for Marion since 1955, although it is Marion's eighth such title overall; and
Whereas, in a demonstration of the Lady Swamp Foxes' top-notch strength, agility, and skill, as well as finely honed team effort and good sportsmanship, the team powerhoused its way back to the top after a fifty-four-year hiatus; and
Whereas, using these talents and attributes, the Lady Swamp Foxes, under the capable leadership of Coach Leon Sturkey, showed fans and foes alike that this victory was no accident; and
Whereas, the House of Representatives takes great pleasure in recognizing the young women of the Marion High School girls' basketball team for leading with excellence both in the classroom and on the hardwood and expects to hear of continued great achievements in the years ahead. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives recognize and commend the Marion High School "Lady Swamp Foxes" basketball team on its impressive win of the 2009 Class AA State Championship title, and honor the players, coach, and staff on an outstanding season.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Principal Alfred McFadden and Coach Leon Sturkey of Marion High School.
