A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO HONOR CAPTAIN JUNNE ROSEBORO "J.R." JONES, RETIRED COMMANDER OF TROOP TWO FOR THE SOUTH CAROLINA HIGHWAY PATROL, FOR HIS THIRTY-ONE YEARS OF DEDICATED SERVICE TO THE STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA, AND TO EXTEND BEST WISHES FOR MUCH HAPPINESS AND FULFILLMENT IN ALL HIS FUTURE ENDEAVORS.

Whereas, it is with great pleasure that the South Carolina House of Representatives recognizes individuals who give tirelessly of themselves as dedicated public servants; and

Whereas, Captain Junne Roseboro "J.R." Jones, retired commander of Troop Two for the South Carolina Highway Patrol, stands among their number as one much admired for his thirty-one years of committed service to the citizens of South Carolina; and

Whereas, a native of Lexington, Captain Jones attended South Carolina State University and began his law enforcement career in February 1978. After graduating from the patrol basic training at the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy, his first duty assignment was McCormick County. He was promoted to the rank of corporal in 1987, sergeant in 1994, lieutenant in 1998, and captain in 2001; and

Whereas, as captain, he oversaw all Highway Patrol activities throughout Abbeville, Edgefield, Greenwood, Laurens, McCormick, Newberry, and Saluda counties. He served as commander of Troop Two until his retirement in February 2009; and

Whereas, during the course of his career, he received many awards, among them District 2 Trooper of the Year in 1988. He was also nominated for a Top Cops award from the National Association of Police Organizations in 1995, and in 1996 he was presented by the South Carolina General Assembly with a resolution honoring him for saving the life of a Georgia pilot who crashed along Highway 72 in Greenwood County; and

Whereas, on Saturday, May 2, 2009, he will be recognized at a reception given in his honor at Hickory Knob Resort Park in McCormick; and

Whereas, having made his mark and set the bar of professionalism high in South Carolina law enforcement, Captain Jones will be remembered with affection and gratitude by colleagues and legislative friends for years to come. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, honor Captain Junne Roseboro "J.R." Jones, retired commander of Troop Two for the South Carolina Highway Patrol, for his thirty-one years of dedicated service to the State of South Carolina, and extend best wishes for much happiness and fulfillment in all his future endeavors.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Captain Junne Roseboro "J.R." Jones.
