A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR THE DUTCH FORK HIGH SCHOOL VARSITY GIRLS' TRACK TEAM FOR CAPTURING THE 2009 SOUTH CAROLINA CLASS AAAA STATE CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE, AND TO CONGRATULATE THE ATHLETES, COACHES, AND SCHOOL OFFICIALS FOR A SUCCESSFUL SEASON.

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives were pleased to learn that the Lady Silver Foxes of Dutch Fork High School took first place on May 16, 2009, in the State Track Meet held at Lower Richland High School; and

Whereas, with the narrowest winning margin in Class AAAA girls' history, the Dutch Fork Lady Silver Fox track team defeated two outstanding challengers, Northwestern High School and three-time defending champion Spartanburg High School, to take the school's first track title for the girls; and

Whereas, although the school's first state championship title was a team effort, senior Niki Klasnic flew to top honors in the 3,200, and Taina LaPorte, a sophomore, snatched the top post in the high jump, each earning a gold medal for the Silver Foxes; and

Whereas, a mere fifth-place finish in the 1,600 relay added enough points to a second-place finish in the 3,200, a fourth-place effort in the hurdles, and a seventh-place in the high jump to put the Lady Silver Foxes over the top for the state title; and

Whereas, in a sport that requires perseverance, strength, and versatility, first-year Coach Brian Mincel molded a championship team through tireless practices and grueling drills, and he fostered excellence that will serve these athletes well in their future endeavors; and

Whereas, the Lady Silver Foxes have brought pride and recognition to their community and to their school, and the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives expect to hear of many more accomplishments from these fine young athletes. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the House of Representatives of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, recognize and honor the Dutch Fork High School varsity girls' track team for capturing the 2009 South Carolina Class AAAA State Championship title, and congratulate the athletes, coaches, and school officials for a successful season.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Principal Gregg L. Morton and Coach Brian Mincel.
