A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO CONGRATULATE THE GAFFNEY HIGH SCHOOL BASEBALL TEAM OF CHEROKEE COUNTY ON ITS EXCITING AAAA STATE CHAMPIONSHIP WIN, AND TO HONOR THE PLAYERS AND COACH JEFF OSMENT ON A SUPERB SEASON.

Whereas, baseball is a game of speed, power, precision, and agility, but to excel in baseball, a team must combine these talents with teamwork and good sportsmanship; and

Whereas, Coach Jeff Osment, in his first season as head coach, and the players of the Gaffney High School baseball team captured the 2009 Class AAAA State Championship title by convincingly uniting all these attributes in one unstoppable team, defeating top-ranked Wando in the title game on May 21, 2009; and

Whereas, to the joy of their supportive fans, the Indians made it their first state baseball title, a sweet sensation they plan to repeat; and

Whereas, further celebration for the Gaffney Indians arrived with the news that their baseball victory marked the first time since 1996 that a school had captured both the softball and baseball titles in the same year; and

Whereas, it is with great pleasure that the South Carolina House of Representatives pauses to recognize the accomplishments and dedication of these fine athletes and their coach and to congratulate them on their success. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, congratulate the Gaffney High School baseball team of Cherokee County on its exciting AAAA state championship win, and honor the players and Coach Jeff Osment on a superb season.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Principal Marlene Davis and Coach Jeff Osment of Gaffney High School.
