A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO HONOR AND RECOGNIZE BRITTANY DELGADO OF GREENVILLE COUNTY, AND TO CONGRATULATE HER FOR CAPTURING THE 2010 WOMEN'S COLLEGIATE WRESTLING ASSOCIATION NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE IN THE 95-KILOGRAM WEIGHT CLASS.

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives were pleased to learn that Brittany Delgado, a 2008 graduate of Hillcrest High School in Simpsonville, took top honors in the 95-kilogram weight class at the Women's Collegiate Wrestling Association's national competition early in 2010; and

Whereas, born in Brunswick, Maine, on April 7, 2009, to Erika and Robert Delgado, Brittany Delgado began wrestling at the age of four and has always wanted to compete to win; and

Whereas, she became the first woman from South Carolina to attend college on a wrestling scholarship when she signed to wrestle for Oklahoma City University, which has captured the national women's wrestling title two years in a row; and

Whereas, in her freshman year, Brittany Delgado took third place in the 82-kilogram weight division at the national meet, but in her sophomore year when a teammate in the 95-kilogram division sustained a season-ending injury, she stepped up to wrestle in that division, not her normal weight class; and

Whereas, on the strength of her first-place victory in that division and three other first-place finishes for the team, the Oklahoma City Stars took the national title again for the 2009-2010 season, and she was named Oklahoma City University Super Star of the Week; and

Whereas, Brittany Delgado, who enjoys working with children, plans to be a science teacher after she graduates from Oklahoma City University; and

Whereas, the summer after her freshman year while helping as a physical education teacher for underprivileged elementary-aged children at a day camp called Project Transformation, she enjoyed the opportunity to give beck to her community and learned how much she appreciates the benefits she enjoyed growing up; and

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives take great pride in the accomplishments of Brittany Delgado and commend her for the recognition and credit she has brought to her college, her family, and our great State. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, honor and recognize Brittany Delgado of Greenville County, and congratulate her for capturing the 2010 Women's Collegiate Wrestling Association National Championship title in the 95-kilogram weight class.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Brittany Delgado.
