A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO CONGRATULATE THE FIRST BAPTIST SCHOOL GIRLS SWIM TEAM OF CHARLESTON COUNTY ON ITS MOST IMPRESSIVE CAPTURE OF THE 2009 SOUTH CAROLINA INDEPENDENT SCHOOL ASSOCIATION (SCISA) CLASS AAA-AA STATE CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE, AND TO RECOGNIZE THE SWIMMERS AND THEIR COACHES ON THE COMPLETION OF A SENSATIONAL SEASON.

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives are pleased to learn that the First Baptist School girls swim team won the 2009 SCISA Class AAA-AA State Championship title on Saturday, October 3, 2009; and

Whereas, swimming is a competitive sport that requires both individual talent and teamwork, as well as discipline and good sportsmanship; and

Whereas, in typical Hurricane fashion, First Baptist demonstrated these key attributes of a true title team, thereby defeating all comers at the state meet and earning the right to be crowned the Class AAA-AA state champion; and

Whereas, serving as sparks that fired the team to victory, three team members each won two individual state titles, Lindsay Moore in the 200-yard freestyle and 100 backstroke, Meredith Lackey in the 200 individual medley and 100 butterfly, and Sara Stansell in the 100 freestyle and 500 free. All three girls also were on the winning 400 freestyle relay team and the winning 200 medley relay; and

Whereas, Coach Sara Kraft believed in her team, imparted that belief to her swimmers, and guided the team all season long by pushing the girls to strive for excellence and encouraging them daily so they were prepared to swim their best; and

Whereas, the House of Representatives takes great pleasure in recognizing and congratulating this magnificent group of talented young women upon the occasion of their winning the state swim title, and the members look for continued great achievements by the team in the days ahead. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, congratulate the First Baptist School girls swim team of Charleston County on its most impressive capture of the 2009 South Carolina Independent School Association (SCISA) Class AAA-AA State Championship title, and recognize the swimmers and their coaches on the completion of a sensational season.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Headmaster Thomas Mullins and Coach Sara Kraft of First Baptist School.
