A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO COMMEND AND RECOGNIZE DR. YVONNE P. BROWN OF RICHLAND COUNTY FOR HER DEDICATED SERVICE TO HER COMMUNITY AND HER CHURCH.

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina General Assembly are grateful for Dr. Yvonne P. Brown's life of service that has benefitted so many in her community and church; and

Whereas, since she moved to South Carolina in 1997 with her husband Samson Brown, Jr., Dr. Brown has served as a member of the Richland County Neighborhood Council and chaired the Toms Creek Community Improvement Association; and

Whereas, a retired educator of thirty-four years in Prince Georges County, Maryland, she brings her expertise to the community as a member of Richland One School District's Strategic Planning Team and as the 2011 president-elect of Alpha Delta Kappa (ADK) Sorority and state ADK chairperson for diversity and world understanding; and

Whereas, realizing the importance of early experiences that enrich young people, she and her husband organized a public charity foundation that provides free golf training for children of Lower Richland, and Dr. Brown serves as the secretary for the Odyssey Golf Foundation for Junior Golf; and

Whereas, she has also served as a member of the board of directors for the Lower Richland Youth Development Organization and is a member of the Richland County Housing and Development Advisory Committee; and

Whereas, enriching her church with her valuable experience as an educator, she served as the chairperson of the board of directors for New Light Beulah Baptist Church's daycare program; and

Whereas, Dr. Brown directs the church's bells ministry program for children between the ages of four and nine years, is a member of the African-American Heritage Committee, and attends weekly noon-day Bible studies; and

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina General Assembly express their deep gratitude to Dr. Yvonne P. Brown for her enthusiasm and devotion to the citizens of her community and church. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the South Carolina General Assembly, by this resolution, commend and recognize Dr. Yvonne P. Brown of Richland County for her dedicated service to her community and her church.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Dr. Yvonne P. Brown.
