A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR THE LIFETIME TELEVISION SERIES ARMY WIVES, FILMED IN CHARLESTON, AS IT MARKS THE BEGINNING OF ITS FOURTH SEASON ON THE AIR, AND TO CONGRATULATE THE PRODUCERS, CAST, AND CREW FOR THEIR TELECASTING SUCCESS.

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives are pleased to learn that Lifetime Television's series Army Wives, filmed in Charleston, began airing its fourth season on April 11, 2010; and

Whereas, as the highest-rated drama in the history of the network, Army Wives has become a major industry for the Charleston area, hiring over three hundred fifty South Carolina residents as extras, actors, crew members, and support staff annually; and

Whereas, in the first three years of production, over forty-two and a half million dollars in wages have been paid in South Carolina, and several actors and crew members have purchased homes in the Charleston area; and

Whereas, new film-related businesses have opened to support the filming of Army Wives, including a camera company, a wardrobe company, a transportation company, a production-facility management company, a properties company, and a lighting company; and

Whereas, the network has renovated a seventy-four thousand square-foot warehouse on the King Street Extension in Charleston for use as a sound stage, and a twenty-four thousand square-foot warehouse for another sound stage near the airbase, and a seventeen thousand square-foot building for use as a mill shop; and

Whereas, the benefits to the Palmetto State from the filming of Army Wives include the generation of tourism to the area as the show promotes the beauty of the Lowcountry and revenues to the hospitality industry which provides meals and lodging to the cast and crew; and

Whereas, enabling students to acquire jobs in the industry, internships with the program support the educational development of resident students from the University of South Carolina, Trident Technical College, and the College of Charleston; and

Whereas, active in South Carolina charities, the series has supported numerous efforts such as Special Olympics, the Charleston Junior League, the local food bank, and Carolina Canines that provide service dogs for wounded warriors; and

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives are grateful for the contributions that the Lifetime Television series Army Wives has made to the economic development of our State and look forward to the continued achievements of this series. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and honor the Lifetime Television series Army Wives, filmed in Charleston, as it marks the beginning of its fourth season on the air, and congratulate the producers, cast, and crew for their telecasting success.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to a representative of Lifetime Television.
