A SENATE RESOLUTION

TO CONGRATULATE ANGELA BROWN BURKHALTER, A COMMITTED AND ACCOMPLISHED EDUCATIONAL PROFESSIONAL AND COMMUNITY LEADER.

Whereas, Angela Brown Burkhalter has dedicated her career to the profession of education at all levels, especially public K-12; and

Whereas, Ms. Burkhalter was an honor graduate of North Augusta High School in 1984 and selected Senior Superlative and served as a Class Officer; and

Whereas, Ms. Burkhalter earned a scholarship to Winthrop University and demonstrated her leadership abilities when elected into the Student Government her freshman year and later served as the Student Body President her senior year and earned a B.A. degree from Winthrop in English in 1968; and

Whereas, Ms. Burkhalter married William H. Burkhalter, Jr. in 1968; and

Whereas, Ms. Burkhalter taught at Wil Lou Gray for three years and at Mann High School in Greenville, South Carolina from 1972-1973; and

Whereas, Ms. Burkhalter advanced her education by completing her Masters of Education in Secondary English in 1975 from the University of South Carolina; and

Whereas, Ms. Burkhalter also served as President of the Winthrop Alumni Association in 1976 and later elected to the Winthrop University Board of Trustees in 1982 and served for eight years; and

Whereas, Ms. Burkhalter taught second, fourth, and fifth grades at Hammond Hills Elementary from 1981-1990 and was Teacher of the Year in 1988; and

Whereas, Ms. Burkhalter earned her Education Specialist Degree in Educational Administration from U.S.C. in 1991 and was chosen for the SCASA Tom Ackerman Assistant Principal of the Year award in 1994; and

Whereas, Ms. Burkhalter was appointed Principal of Jackson Middle School in 1995 and served through 2002. She also received her Doctor of Philosophy Degree in Educational Administration Degree from U.S.C. in 1995; and

Whereas, Ms. Burkhalter has served as Principal at North Augusta Elementary since 2002 and the school has earned numerous awards under her leadership. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the Senate congratulate Angela Brown Burkhalter for her outstanding dedication and service to our children's educational future and for her role in the betterment of our educational system.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Ms. Angela Burkhalter.
