A SENATE RESOLUTION

TO CONGRATULATE RICHARD BUTLER TIMMERMAN, HORRY COUNTY PARKS AND RECREATION DISTRICT SUPERVISOR, UPON THE OCCASION OF HIS RETIREMENT, TO COMMEND HIM FOR HIS MANY YEARS OF COMMITTED SERVICE, AND TO WISH HIM MUCH HAPPINESS AND FULFILLMENT IN ALL HIS FUTURE ENDEAVORS.

Whereas, for the past thirty-five years, South Carolina's coastal area has enjoyed the benefit of the dedication and experience of Richard Butler Timmerman, first, as City of Myrtle Beach athletic director for the Parks and Recreation Department and, most recently, as Horry County Parks and Recreation district supervisor; and

Whereas, when he began his work as district supervisor for Horry County Parks and Recreation in 2004, Dick Timmerman brought with him not only six years of prior service as City of Myrtle Beach athletic director for the Parks and Recreation Department but also valuable experience as City of North Myrtle Beach director of parks and recreation (beach), from which he retired in 2004 after twenty-four years of service; and

Whereas, in the course of his career, he dealt with more than fourteen million dollars used for the improvement of parks and recreation, resulting in increased quality of life for both residents and visitors to the coastal area; and

Whereas, his dedicated efforts have won him many appreciative friends and brought him numerous awards, among them 2007 Horry County Employee of the Year and a 2002 Hero Award from Governor Jim Hodges. In addition, in 2005, the North Myrtle Beach City Council erected a plaque at the community center to commemorate his twenty-four years of service, and North Myrtle Beach chose him as grand marshal of the city's Christmas parade in 2004; and

Whereas, believing a man should be actively involved in his community, Dick Timmerman has served as a member of the Horry County Parks and Recreation Planning Committee, North Myrtle Beach Rotary Club, and North-South All-Star Football Game Committee. Among his many other activities, he is director for Dixie Youth Baseball (District IV), an ex-officio member of the Myrtle Beach Chamber of Commerce, a member of Ocean View Baptist Church, and an advisor for Campus Crusade for Christ; and

Whereas, having made his mark and set the bar of achievement extraordinarily high in his profession, Mr. Timmerman is planning a well-deserved retirement. He will be remembered with affection and gratitude by colleagues, the citizens of North Myrtle Beach, and legislative friends for years to come. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, congratulate Richard Butler Timmerman, Horry County Parks and Recreation district supervisor, upon the occasion of his retirement, commend him for his many years of committed service, and wish him much happiness and fulfillment in all his future endeavors.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be provided to Richard Butler Timmerman.
