A SENATE RESOLUTION

TO CONGRATULATE COLLEGE STREET BAPTIST CHURCH OF WALHALLA AND ITS CONGREGATION ON THE OBSERVANCE AND CELEBRATION OF ITS CENTENNIAL ANNIVERSARY.

Whereas, the history of College Street Baptist Church began November 7, 1909 with twenty-five members organizing the Second Baptist Church of Walhalla; and

Whereas, the congregation of the Second Baptist Church of Walhalla flourished under the leadership of its pastors and outgrew its original site; and

Whereas, in 1965 the church dedicated a new building and renamed the church College Street Baptist Church; and

Whereas, the congregation of College Street Baptist Church refused to let tragedy stand in the way of God's work and rebuilt the church after it was completely destroyed by fire on December 2, 1968; and

Whereas, College Street Baptist Church continues to be an extraordinary influence on the Upstate of South Carolina after one hundred years of leadership, service, and dedication to the moral and spiritual growth of the Upstate community; and

Whereas, the Senate of South Carolina finds it fitting to recognize the centennial celebration of College Street Baptist Church of Walhalla on November 8, 2009. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the Senate of South Carolina congratulates College Street Baptist Church of Walhalla on the observance and celebration of its centennial anniversary on November 8, 2009.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to College Street Baptist Church.
