A SENATE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND COMMEND FRED LAMPHERE FOR HIS HONORABLE MILITARY SERVICE TO THIS GRATEFUL STATE AND NATION AND FOR HIS TIRELESS VOLUNTEER EFFORTS TO PROVIDE HOMES FOR HOMELESS VETERANS IN SOUTH CAROLINA.

Whereas, few things afford greater pleasure to the South Carolina Senate than recognizing the selfless labors of this great state's dedicated public servants and volunteer workers; and

Whereas, Fred Lamphere, retired U.S. Army chief warrant officer and retired director of the Alston Wilkes Veterans Group Home in Columbia, ranks high in their honored company for his outstanding military and volunteer service; and

Whereas, having distinguished himself in his dual career, Fred Lamphere has volunteered and served since 2000 as both board member and secretary-treasurer of Palmetto State Base Camp, a nonprofit organization providing housing for homeless veterans in the Columbia area; and

Whereas, as part of his volunteer duties, he has coordinated and directed Palmetto State Base Camp's Community Housing Development Organization, and his efforts have resulted in securing seven single-family homes in and around Columbia for the housing of homeless veterans who have successfully completed the Alston Wilkes Veterans Group Home Program; and

Whereas, Fred Lamphere's consistent and exemplary leadership has directly contributed to improving the health and welfare of veterans in South Carolina; and

Whereas, in addition, the efforts and successes of Mr. Lamphere in serving homeless veterans is now a national model program for other veterans' service groups throughout the United States; and

Whereas, having filled his life with exceptional accomplishments that would take many men two lifetimes to achieve, Fred Lamphere well deserves the praise this Senate now extends to him. The members offer their grateful thanks for his committed military and volunteer service and wish him much success as he continues to serve our veterans. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, recognize and commend Fred Lamphere for his honorable military service to this grateful State and nation and for his tireless volunteer efforts to provide homes for homeless veterans in South Carolina.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Fred Lamphere.
