A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO URGE THE DEPARTMENT OF COMMERCE TO DEVELOP AND IMPLEMENT AN INDUSTRIAL AND MANUFACTURER SUPPLIER RECRUITMENT INITIATIVE THAT EMPHASIZES SOUTH CAROLINA'S RIGHT TO WORK STATUS TO ATTRACT BUSINESSES THAT SUPPLY MANUFACTURING OPERATIONS THAT MOVE TO SOUTH CAROLINA.

Whereas, a free market economy is fundamental to realizing the American dream and promoting the success of our democracy, and the successful operation of such an economy relies on a labor force free to pursue its right to work without interference from organized labor unions; and

Whereas, the Palmetto State proudly strives to ensure the right to work to its hardworking citizens, consequently providing a hospitable climate attractive to business and industry seeking to expand operations to South Carolina; and

Whereas, the relocation of manufacturing operations such as BMW and Boeing to South Carolina often has a rippling effect of economic benefit by prompting their suppliers to also locate supply operations in our state, bringing additional jobs and tax revenue in the process. Successful recruiting of these suppliers is essential to maximizing the benefits of new industry recruitment; and

Whereas, the South Carolina Department of Commerce serves a vital role in recruiting new industry and their suppliers to our state. To ensure success in this task, the department's recruiting efforts must conscientiously strive to emphasize the tremendous desirability of our state's right-to-work status; a goal best accomplished by developing and implementing an Industrial and Manufacturer Supplier Recruitment Initiative. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, urge the Department of Commerce to develop and implement an Industrial and Manufacturer Supplier Recruitment Initiative to emphasize South Carolina's right to work status to attract businesses that supply manufacturing operations that move to South Carolina.

Be it further resolved that copies of this resolution be forwarded to the Department of Commerce.
