A BILL

TO AMEND THE CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, BY ADDING SECTION 41-29-15 SO AS TO PROHIBIT A MEMBER OF THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OR HIS IMMEDIATE FAMILY FROM BEING ELECTED TO THE SOUTH CAROLINA EMPLOYMENT SECURITY COMMISSION AND TO MAKE HIM OR HIS IMMEDIATE FAMILY INELIGIBLE TO BE ELECTED TO THE COMMISSION FOR A PERIOD OF FOUR YEARS AFTER BEING A MEMBER OF THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

SECTION    1.    Chapter 29, Title 41 of the 1976 Code is amended by adding:

"Section 41-29-15.        A member of the General Assembly or member of his immediate family may not be elected to the South Carolina Employment Security Commission while the member is serving in the General Assembly. A member of the General Assembly or a member of his immediate family may not be elected to the commission for a period of four years after the member either:

(1)    ceases to be a member of the General Assembly; or

(2)    fails to file for election to the General Assembly in accordance with Section 7-11-15."

SECTION    2.    This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
