A BILL

TO AMEND ACT 848 OF 1946, AS AMENDED, RELATING TO THE CREATION OF THE UNION HOSPITAL DISTRICT, SO AS TO ADD THREE ADVISORY MEMBERS TO THE DISTRICT'S BOARD OF TRUSTEES, AND TO DELETE PROVISIONS MAKING THE UNION COUNTY TREASURER THE BOARD'S TREASURER, PROHIBITING A TRUSTEE FROM RECEIVING COMPENSATION, ALLOWING REIMBURSEMENT TO A TRUSTEE FOR ACTUAL CASH EXPENDITURES MADE BY HIM AS A TRUSTEE, AND CONCERNING A SEAL AND CERTAIN OFFICE PROCEDURES OF THE DISTRICT.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

SECTION    1.    Section 2 of Act 848 of 1946, as last amended by Act 294 of 1985, is further amended to read:

"SECTION    2.    The Union Hospital District is governed by a board composed of seven voting members and three nonvoting advisory members, collectively known as the Union Hospital District Board of Trustees. Three of the members of the board of trustees must be medical doctors and practicing physicians within the Union Hospital District and four of the members The seven voting members must be resident citizens of that District, and the three nonvoting advisory members must be from the Wallace Thompson Hospital medical community. The voting members of the board of trustees must be appointed by the Union County Council which also shall establish the terms of the voting members. Any A vacancy occurring in the office of trustee must be filled in the manner of the original appointment for the unexpired portion of the term. Upon appointment the member of the board of trustees shall qualify by taking the oath required of other officers they consider necessary, but no bonds are required of them. The treasurer of the Union County is the treasurer of the Union Hospital District Board of Trustees. He shall receive and pay out all monies under the control of the board as directed by it, but shall receive no compensation for his services. No trustee shall receive compensation for his services, but may receive reimbursement for any cash expenditures actually made for personal expenses incurred as trustee. The Union Hospital District Board of Trustees shall adopt an official seal and procure office quarters within the Union Hospital District where all formal meetings must be held, and all records must be kept."

SECTION    2.    This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
