A SENATE RESOLUTION

TO HONOR THE REVEREND CALVIN ROBINSON FOR HIS TWENTY-TWO YEARS OF GOSPEL MINISTRY AS PASTOR OF BETHLEHEM MISSIONARY BAPTIST CHURCH IN SALUDA, AND TO WISH HIM GOD'S RICHEST BLESSINGS AS HE CONTINUES TO SERVE THE LORD.

Whereas, it is with great pleasure that the South Carolina Senate honors those individuals who give tirelessly of themselves to aid the souls of men; and

Whereas, the Reverend Calvin Robinson, pastor of Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church in Saluda, stands among their number as an outstanding minister of the Gospel, one much admired by colleagues, congregation, and area residents at large; and

Whereas, born in Trenton on June 27, 1946, Calvin Robinson attended the public schools of Edgefield County. In preparation for a fruitful ministry, he graduated from W.E. Parker High School and furthered his studies at Augusta Technical College in Augusta, Georgia, and at A.B.T. Seminary at the American Baptist College, also in Augusta; and

Whereas, from 1965 to 1968, he served his country in the United States Army, receiving an honorable discharge at the end of his service. From 1978 to 1984, he served in the South Carolina National Guard; and

Whereas, on September 4, 1988, Calvin Robinson preached to the congregation of Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church and was ordained into the Gospel ministry of Jesus Christ on July 30, 1989. In December of that same year, he was elected pastor of Bethlehem Missionary Baptist; and

Whereas, he is a member of Science Hill Missionary Baptist Church in Edgefield County and has served there as a church bus driver and member of the board of deacons (vice chairman), senior choir (vice president), and Science Hill Male Chorus (president). He is also a member of King Solomon's Lodge #222; and

Whereas, Calvin Robinson counts it as one of the great achievements of his life that he convinced his beloved Doris to become his wife forty-two years ago. God has blessed the couple with two sons, Lemuel and Jason, who have given their parents the joy of three grandchildren; and

Whereas, noted as a humble, courageous man of Christian character, one of whom it truly may be said, "Well done, good and faithful servant," Reverend Robinson has demonstrated to others how to be "steadfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord"; and

Whereas, the Senate, cognizant of his many years of spiritual nourishment of the people of South Carolina, wishes to express its grateful thanks to Reverend Calvin Robinson and wish him God's best as he continues to run the race the Lord has set before him. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, honor the Reverend Calvin Robinson for his twenty-two years of Gospel ministry as pastor of Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church in Saluda, and wish him God's richest blessings as he continues to serve the Lord.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be provided to the Reverend Calvin Robinson.
