A SENATE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR LARRY W. PATRICK UPON THE OCCASION OF HIS RETIREMENT AFTER FORTY-ONE YEARS OF OUTSTANDING SERVICE ON THE ORANGEBURG CALHOUN AREA COMMISSION, AND TO WISH HIM CONTINUED SUCCESS AND HAPPINESS IN ALL HIS FUTURE ENDEAVORS.

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate are pleased to learn that Larry W. Patrick will begin a well-earned retirement after forty-one years of faithful and continuous service on the Orangeburg Calhoun Area Commission; and

Whereas, when Larry Patrick began his service to the Orangeburg Calhoun Technical College in 1971 as a member of the Orangeburg Calhoun Area Commission, the college had fewer than two hundred students enrolled in a relatively small number of technical programs; and

Whereas, he was instrumental in guiding the growth and development of the college through its early years, and today the college serves approximately three thousand students annually in eighty degree programs, as well as more than three thousand students in training and development and community-interest short-term courses; and

Whereas, Mr. Patrick served twelve years as chairman of the Orangeburg Calhoun Area Commission, and under his leadership, the college broke ground in 2002 on its first new building since 1987, the signature Student and Community Life Center, with thirty-seven thousand square feet that combined all student-service functions in one location; and

Whereas, he worked tirelessly to establish articulation agreements between the college and South Carolina's four-year colleges, which enabled local students to study at home for two years, transfer courses without penalty, and complete a four-year degree at any state college or university; and

Whereas, a graduate of the University of South Carolina, Mr. Patrick served his country with distinction for two years in the Unites States Air Force and returned to serve as a vital member of his local and greater community; and

Whereas, he served as president of the South Carolina Young Farmer Association and was a recipient of the South Carolina Young Farmer of the Year award; he served as president of the South Carolina Soil Conservation Districts and chairman of the Orangeburg Soil Conservation District for more than thirty years, and he was a member of the Bowman Ruritan Club, the Toastmasters Club, and the Orangeburg County Farm Bureau; and

Whereas, an active member of the Bowman Southern Methodist Church, he has served on the board of stewards for a number of years; and

Whereas, he and his beloved wife, Pauline, reared three fine daughters, who have blessed them with eight adoring grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; and

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate appreciate the legacy of leadership that Larry W. Patrick has provided his community and the Palmetto State and wish him many years of enjoyment in his well-deserved retirement. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, recognize and honor Larry W. Patrick upon the occasion of his retirement after forty-one years of outstanding service on the Orangeburg Calhoun Area Commission, and wish him continued success and happiness in all his future endeavors.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be provided to Larry W. Patrick.
