A SENATE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR THE TEAM MEMBERS, TEAM LEADERS, AND INCIDENT COMMANDERS OF THE WESTINGHOUSE NUCLEAR FUELS EMERGENCY RESPONSE TEAM OF RICHLAND COUNTY FOR THEIR ONGOING SUPPORT FOR THE GREATER LOCAL COMMUNITY AND FOR THEIR COMMITMENT TO EXCELLENCE IN EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS AND RESPONSE.

Whereas, the South Carolina Senate is pleased to learn that the members of the Westinghouse Nuclear Fuels Emergency Response Team will be recognized at the company's annual employee appreciation banquet on November 3, 2012; and

Whereas, the volunteers are employees of Westinghouse Nuclear Fuels in positions that generally require at least twenty percent of overtime, and out of concern for their plant and the greater community, they volunteer additional time to become and remain qualified for this service and to carry out the volunteer duties associated with the response team; and

Whereas, annually the members of the team attend several three-day training sessions required by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration and by the National Fire Prevention Association, as well as numerous others training seminars; and

Whereas, their volunteer service requires that they be qualified to fight fires, perform confined-space or high-angle rescues, and to make HAZMAT, medical, and radiological responses; and

Whereas, with a keen awareness that there is more to life than their own lives and concerns, the team is now recognized as the standard for the industry in emergency preparedness and response, but they also understand that their contributions to the community are just as important; and

Whereas, added to the sacrifice of time for training, the members of the team, not Westinghouse, bear the expenses for the contributions of time and money that they make to the community; and

Whereas, they have made significant donations to meet critical needs in the school districts of Lexington and Aiken counties and at the Oliver Gospel Mission in Richland County; and

Whereas, when the team learned of the needs of children in Batesburg who had lost parents in the Afghanistan War, the members mobilized to donate their time and goods in order to meet these needs; and

Whereas, the members of the Senate of the State of South Carolina are deeply grateful for the sacrificial, volunteer service of almost eighty members of the Westinghouse Nuclear Fuels Emergency Response Team and for the benefit they give to the citizens of the Palmetto State. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, recognize and honor the team members, team leaders, and incident commanders of the Westinghouse Nuclear Fuels Emergency Response Team of Richland County for their ongoing support for the greater local community and for their commitment to excellence in emergency preparedness and response.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to the members of the Westinghouse Nuclear Fuels Emergency Response Team.
