A SENATE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE EDNA WILSON MILLHOUSE OF SUMMERVILLE ON THE REMARKABLE OCCASION OF HER ONE HUNDREDTH BIRTHDAY AND TO WISH HER CONTINUED GOOD HEALTH AND MUCH HAPPINESS IN THE YEARS TO COME.

Whereas, the members of the Senate were very pleased to learn that Ms. Edna Wilson Millhouse celebrated her one hundredth birthday on April 20, 2012; and

Whereas, a celebration was held for her on April 21, 2012, at Canaan UMC Family Life Center by her family and many friends; attendees were invited to submit a favorite memory and/or recipe to share at the celebration; and

Whereas, Edna was born in Summerville on April 20, 1912 - the same year and month as the sinking of the Titanic; and

Whereas, Ms. Millhouse still lives in the same home that she and her husband, the late Booker T. "Buster" Millhouse, built in 1936 in Summerville; she is the daughter of the late James and Ella Wilson; and

Whereas, Edna raised one daughter, the late Agnes Middleton, who succumbed to breast cancer at an early age; and

Whereas, she began working at the age of twelve, performing a variety of jobs for private, federal, and local agencies, finally retiring in 1972 from Summerville High School, where she was the first custodian when the school opened in 1970; and

Whereas, Edna is a proud grandmother to grandchildren Donald, Nathaniel, Andrea, and Lori Middleton; four great-grandchildren, Ricardo, Derrick, Nicolas Middleton, and Terrance Rivers, Jr.; and and one great-great grandson, Derrick, Jr.; and

Whereas, she also has been the "adoptive" grandmother (known as MaMa) and "Aunt Edna" to the community known as Red Road; and

Whereas, the members of the Senate are happy to pause in their deliberations to honor this wonderful daughter of South Carolina. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the Senate, by this resolution, recognize Edna Wilson Millhouse of Summerville on the remarkable occasion of her one hundredth birthday and wish her continued good health and much happiness in the years to come.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Ms. Edna W. Millhouse.
