A SENATE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR THE A. C. FLORA HIGH SCHOOL VARSITY BOYS GOLF TEAM, COACHES, AND SCHOOL OFFICIALS FOR AN OUTSTANDING SEASON, AND TO CONGRATULATE THEM FOR WINNING THE 2012 CLASS AAA STATE CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE.

Whereas, the South Carolina Senate is pleased to learn that the members of the A. C. Flora High School varsity boys golf team of Richland County took top honors at the state competition on Tuesday, May 15, 2012, at the Hackler Course on the campus of Coastal Carolina University; and

Whereas, the A. C. Flora Falcons left the course of the state championship game with what could be called a triple-crown victory, having won three consecutive state championships, but in fact they have taken five of the past six titles and seven in the past ten seasons, all under Coach Harry Huntley; and

Whereas, the Falcons fell behind the Chapin High School Eagles on the first day of play 298-302 on Monday, but recovered to force overtime with a 305-309 edge in the second round; and

Whereas, the playoff matched the four top scoring players on both teams from the second round to tee off together on the tenth hole, which included Falcon junior and team leader, Wick Andrews; sophomore Chase Fisher; sophomore Will Marter; and freshman Jennings Huntley; and

Whereas, to the delight of their fans, the Falcons prevailed in overtime for the second year in a row when Will Marter made a birdie on the extra hole and each of the three others shot par; and

Whereas, Wick Andrews led the Falcons with a score of 145, tying for second place and a spot on the All-State team for the third year, and Will Marter, the other returning starter, also made the All-State team with a 152; and

Whereas, with no seniors and only one junior on the Falcon starting lineup, A. C. Flora is in fantastic position to keep the trophy polished for a couple of more years; and

Whereas, in a sport that demands strategy and skill, Head Coach Huntley and his skilled assistant coaches, Wayne Marter and Craig Augenstein, capitalized on their own athletic ability and training to forge a championship team and teach these athletes lessons that will prove invaluable through life both on and off the greens; and

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate appreciate the recognition that the A. C. Flora High School varsity golfers have brought to their school and their community and look to hear of their continued accomplishments in the days ahead. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, recognize and honor the A. C. Flora High School varsity boys golf team, coaches, and school officials for an outstanding season and congratulate them for winning the 2012 Class AAA State Championship title.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Principal Richard K. McClure and Coach Harry Huntley.
