A SENATE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR MYRON E. THOMAS, DIRECTOR OF BANDS AT EAU CLAIRE HIGH SCHOOL, UPON THE OCCASION OF HIS RETIREMENT AFTER TWENTY-FIVE YEARS OF OUTSTANDING SERVICE AT THE SCHOOL, AND TO WISH HIM CONTINUED SUCCESS AND HAPPINESS IN ALL HIS FUTURE ENDEAVORS.

Whereas, it is altogether fitting and proper that the members of the Senate of the State of South Carolina should pause in their deliberations to express their gratitude to Myron E. Thomas for his significant contributions to the field of music education and band directing in the Palmetto State; and

Whereas, the son of Henry A. and Isla S. Thomas, he earned a bachelor's degree in instrumental music education from South Carolina State University and did post graduate work at Francis Marion University; Furman University; Columbia College; the University of South Carolina; Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts; VanderCook College of Music in Chicago, Illinois; and Full Sail University in Winter Park, Florida; and

Whereas, Myron Thomas has conducted band clinics and camps at South Carolina State University, Johnson C. Smith University in Charlotte, Benedict College, and in the Williamsburg County School District; and

Whereas, a Governor's School intern, he is a member of the National Association for Music Education, the South Carolina Music Education Association, the South Carolina Band Director Association, and Kappa Kappa Psi National Honorary Band Fraternity; and

Whereas, he cofounded and is the principle bass player for the Blythewood Jazz Orchestra, and he served on the jazz committee for the South Carolina Music Educators Association; and

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate are grateful for the years of dedication that Myron Thomas has devoted to providing music education to the youth of our State and wish him many years of enjoyment in his well-earned retirement. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the Senate of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, recognize and honor Myron E. Thomas, Director of Bands at Eau Claire High School, upon the occasion of his retirement after twenty-five years of outstanding service at the school, and wish him continued success and happiness in all his future endeavors.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Myron E. Thomas.
