A SENATE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR ANNE PLATTS RICE, EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF THE SALKEHATCHIE LEADERSHIP INSTITUTE, UPON THE OCCASION OF HER RETIREMENT AFTER FOURTEEN YEARS OF OUTSTANDING SERVICE, AND TO WISH HER CONTINUED SUCCESS AND HAPPINESS IN ALL HER FUTURE ENDEAVORS.

Whereas, it is altogether fitting and proper that the members of the South Carolina Senate should pause in their deliberations to express their gratitude to Anne Platts Rice for her significant contributions to the Salkehatchie Leadership Institute; and

Whereas, the Senate is pleased to learn that Anne Rice will be honored on June 27, 2012, at a reception in appreciation for her outstanding service with the Salkehatchie Leadership Institute; and

Whereas, reared in Estill, Anne Rice graduated from the University of South Carolina Salkehatchie and the University of South Carolina; and

Whereas, she has lived in Allendale for over forty years and has served as an effective ambassador for the town; and

Whereas, since 1998, she has been Executive Director of the Salkehatchie Leadership Institute, an initiative created to serve as a catalyst in the economic development and job creation for the greater Salkehatchie community, including Allendale, Bamberg, Barnwell, Colleton, and Hampton counties; and

Whereas, under her leadership, the Salkehatchie Leadership Institute has been instrumental in the development of a local public transportation system for Allendale County and in launching programs through the creation of Salkehatchie Arts, an organization which has built camaraderie among the five service communities; and

Whereas, she has enabled the Salkehatchie Leadership Institute to develop a website to promote tourism in the five-county service area and has worked to develop a boys and girls club and to establish the Lower Savannah River Community Foundation; and

Whereas, in 2003, the Salkehatchie Leadership Institute was recognized for excellence in innovation by the Southern Growth Policy Board; and

Whereas, through her tireless efforts, she has made significant contributions to the University of South Carolina Salkehatchie; and

Whereas, together she and her beloved husband, Sam M. Rice III, reared four fine children: Sam Rice IV, who is deceased; Frank Rice; Roseanne Rice Keller; and John Rice; and

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate are grateful for the years of dedication that Anne Rice has devoted to improving the quality of life for the citizens of the greater Salkehatchie community through the Salkehatchie Leadership Institute and wish her many years of enjoyment in her well-earned retirement. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, recognize and honor Anne Platts Rice, Executive Director of the Salkehatchie Leadership Institute, upon the occasion of her retirement after fourteen years of outstanding service, and wish her continued success and happiness in all her future endeavors.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Anne Platts Rice.
