A SENATE RESOLUTION

TO COMMEND AND CONGRATULATE PERSONNEL SUPPORT DETACHMENT PERSONNEL SPECIALIST 1ST CLASS JAMES R. LONG, JR., ON BEING NAMED 2010 NAVAL SUPPORT ACTIVITY'S SAILOR OF THE YEAR ON JOINT BASE CHARLESTON-WEAPONS STATION.

Whereas, the South Carolina Senate is pleased and proud to learn that Personnel Support Detachment (PSD) Personnel Specialist 1st Class James R. Long, Jr., has been named 2010 Naval Support Activity's Sailor of the Year on Joint Base Charleston-Weapons Station; and

Whereas, Lexington native PS1 Long, Students Department Leading Petty Officer, joined the United States Navy in 2001 and quickly rose through the ranks. He reported to PSD in November 2006; and

Whereas, Petty Officer Long is the account manager for the Navy Standard Integrated Personnel System, training coordinator for all Chief of Naval Operations directives, and general military-training petty officer, and he coordinates safety stand-downs for PSD; and

Whereas, not only is PS1 Long a dedicated sailor, but he is also a devoted family man and actively serves his community. Each week, he spends numerous hours coaching a YMCA soccer team and routinely helps at his local church; and

Whereas, he has a well-deserved reputation as a wise mentor and leader among those he counsels and is known as "someone you can count on no matter what"; and

Whereas, in his constant striving for excellence, PS1 Long finds strong support in his wife, Tiffany, and their son, Jacob; and

Whereas, having returned from a year-long deployment to Afghanistan in April 2010, he leaves again on January 23, 2011, for another year of service, this time in Kuwait; and

Whereas, the Senate counts it a privilege to honor PS1 Long for his dedicated service, wish him Godspeed on his new assignment in Kuwait, and congratulate him as the 2010 Naval Support Activity's Sailor of the Year on Joint Base Charleston-Weapons Station. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, commend and congratulate Personnel Support Detachment Personnel Specialist 1st Class James R. Long, Jr., on being named 2010 Naval Support Activity's Sailor of the Year on Joint Base Charleston-Weapons Station.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be provided to PS1 James R. Long, Jr.
