A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO CONGRATULATE SUE AND GEORGE SENSOR OF CAMDEN, OWNERS OF 2011 CAROLINA CUP WINNER SUNSHINE NUMBERS, ON THEIR FIRST PLACE VICTORY AT THE CAROLINA CUP.

Whereas, the South Carolina House of Representatives was pleased to learn that Sue and George Sensor of Camden took home first place honors at the seventy-ninth running of the $50,000 Carolina First Carolina Cup (Gr. II) Steeplechase, as a result of the outstanding performance of their champion horse, Sunshine Numbers; and

Whereas, held at Camden's Springdale Race Course on Saturday, April 2, 2011, the Carolina Cup once again proved itself worthy of its reputation as one of the most prestigious horse races in the country; and

Whereas, this annual rite of spring draws more than sixty thousand race fans each year to the Springdale Race Course, a world renowned European-style thoroughbred racehorse training center of six hundred acres that operates year round. The Carolina Cup brings with it an annual economic impact of $4.4 million when combined with that of the Colonial Cup; and

Whereas, Sunshine Numbers, a nine-year-old gelding trained by Camden's Arch Kingsley, took the lead in this year's Carolina Cup from the start. He carried jockey Jody Petty to a dominating 27-1/4-length victory in a winning time of 4:23 for the 2-1/4-mile steeplechase, a feat that made Sunshine Numbers the first horse owned by permanent Camden residents to win the Carolina Cup; and

Whereas, just a few months previously, the gelding had closed his 2010 campaign by winning the $20,000 Hobkirk Hill Steeplechase over the same course at the Colonial Cup. The Carolina Cup gave him his third win in as many starts, dating back to a victory in the Aiken Fall Meet last October; and

Whereas, recently Sunshine Numbers received an additional honor from the New York Steeplechase Association, which named him New York-bred Steeplechaser of the Year; and

Whereas, his owners, Sue and George Sensor, first came to Camden in 1980. Having fallen in love with the town, the atmosphere, and the horses, the couple moved to Camden permanently in 1992; and

Whereas, grateful for the pride and recognition Sunshine Numbers has brought to South Carolina, the House of Representatives takes great pleasure in applauding this fine horse and his owners for their recent victory at the Carolina Cup. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, congratulate Sue and George Sensor of Camden, owners of 2011 Carolina Cup winner Sunshine Numbers, on their first place victory at the Carolina Cup.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be provided to Sue and George Sensor.
